Senior Account Manager

Personal Specifications

We are looking for a full time Senior Account Manager with strong public relations experience who is outgoing, driven, committed and enthusiastic. This is an opportunity for a passionate and ambitious professional to make their mark, become a significant leadership
figure in the business and help in keeping a firm hand on the tiller as we grow.

Role Overview

The senior account manager (SAM) plays a critical role within the account team, requiring the ability to think both professionally and proactively across all elements of the job: from client handling and self-education about the sectors in which the client(s) operate; practically – from time management, future planning and account fee structures; creatively – from campaign ideation to execution; and strategically – proactively identifying and using tools and approaches to achieve and exceed personal, company and account objectives.

As an experienced member of the team supporting the Account Directors and management team, the SAM will often be the main day-to-day point of contact for clients, ensuring the smooth running of the account(s) and leading by example to junior members. It is an opportunity to hone and refine management and mentorship skills over junior members and reinforce skills for strategic thinking and client counselling. The SAM’s job is to build strong client relationships and co-ordinate with internal teams to deliver on and exceed the clients’ objectives. When identifying and presenting challenges and issues, the SAM will simultaneously consider solutions to the presenting problem. To excel in this role, SAMs must be tenacious, results-driven, highly organised, display creativity and sound problem solving skills, and can work calmly and productively under pressure. They are persuasive communicators and negotiators and can inspire a junior team.

Specific to this role at TDC, the SAM will be personally motivated by the design, innovation and creative industries world, and – throughout their career – will proactively take continuous measures to enhance their understanding and learning of this sector in order to help inform their creative and strategic thinking.

Account Responsibilities

  • Consistently developing and nurturing media relationships with key press across print, online and broadcast channels
  • Pro-actively monitoring the media landscape (newspapers, magazine, journals, newswires, blogs and social media) for PR opportunities for clients, and acting as
  • the front-line radar for identifying and responding to these time-sensitive opportunities. Also, actively presenting PR opportunities to clients for results based activities
  • Studiously learning the media landscapes and media universes of each client, overseeing the building-up and maintaining of media lists, as well as the planning of pitches with forward features and the creation of editorial calendars
  • Communicating and co-ordinating with internal teams to ensure the smooth running of accounts
  • Leading on promoting / ‘selling in’ news stories and features to the media

Company Responsibilities

  • Mentor and support junior team members
  • Accountability and management of multiple accounts
  • Daily news monitoring
  • Researching and identifying new business opportunities
  • Developing and implementing strategic plans to manage and grow accounts
  • Assist in developing new business proposals and participating in new business
  • Support senior team members at industry and client events wherever necessary

Key Skills and Experience

  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Resilient and unflappable under pressure
  • Highly organised and adept in all time management and organisational activities of
account teams, and able to prioritise
  • Thorough understanding of clients’ business and their market
  • Excellent client handling skills
  • Enhanced people skills – able to adapt and liaise professionally and engagingly with
a range of personalities, both internally and externally
  • Excellent skills in persuasion and negotiation
  • Self-motivated and incredibly driven
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Resourceful, intuitive and inventive problem solver
  • Awareness of the ‘bigger picture’ – both client-based and corporately
  • A naturally analytical mind – keen to evaluate impact and efficacy of PR
  • A considerate, empathetic, self-aware and collaborative team member who
contributes positively to the work culture

Career Path

To progress to Account Director position, the SAM must consistently achieve and exceed objectives based on the above activities for a portfolio of clients, as well as for the wider company, as agreed with the AD and Director.
