We are looking for a smart, switched-on, outgoing, driven, committed and enthusiastic PR account executive with proven nous and flare to join the team as a full-time employee. This is an opportunity for a passionate and ambitious professional to develop their career, make their mark and become a core part of the TDC team.
A solid grounding in UK media, PR strategy and methodology is essential. Core to this role is an appetite and proven ability to make and grow relationships with relevant press contacts and industry stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have a personal passion for the creative industries and a minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in an in–house or agency PR role, ideally relating or connected to the sector’s core to the TDC business.
Role Overview
The account executive (AE) plays an important supporting role to the accounts team, typically comprising Senior Account Executive (SAE), Account Manager (AM), Senior Account Manager (SAM), and Directors.
The AE will typically work across a number of different accounts, enabling the skills acquired at JAE level to be further developed and reinforced. Supporting and directly reporting to the SAE and AM, the AE is responsible for implementing day-to-day activities to ensure the smooth operation of key accounts.
Right at the frontline of media relations, the AE is adept at selling-in stories to reporters and editors, is a core identifier of PR opportunities, has started to develop a good contacts book of key media and is both proactive and incredibly results-driven. The role is also an opportunity to hone and refine management and mentorship skills over junior members (JAE) as well as begin to develop the core skills required for strategic thinking and client counselling.
An AE will have a natural willingness to learn and a desire to make PR not just a job but a career. In their role, they must be able to understand and accept the ‘bigger picture’ and the intrinsic part they play in this. In this role, the AE will continue to develop a sound understanding of the media landscape, honing and refining the skills needed to generate positive PR coverage across all mediums, as well as assisting in key account administration. To progress to SAE, the AE must be tenacious, a fast and eager learner and a real grafter; able to get stuck into a variety of tasks and supporting their immediate line managers wherever needed.
Specific to this role at TDC, the AE will be personally motivated by the design, innovation and creative industries world, and – throughout their career – will proactively take continuous measures to enhance their understanding and learning of this sector in order to help inform their creative and strategic thinking.
Account Responsibilities
- Pro-actively monitoring the media landscape (newspapers, magazine, journals, newswires, blogs and social media) for PR opportunities for clients, and acting as the front-line radar for identifying and responding to these time-sensitive opportunities
- Studiously learning the media landscapes and media universes of each client, accurately building-up and maintaining media lists, as well as planning pitches with forward features and creating editorial calendars
- Develop and nurture media relationships with key press across print, online and broadcast channels
- Liaising on a daily basis with team, clients and the media via telephone, email and face-to-face meetings
- Preparing accurate client reports, status updates and being an active participant in client meetings and conference calls
- Research, writing and distributing press releases and other written collateral to target media
- Promoting / ‘selling in’ news stories and features to the media
- Assist in collating, analysing and evaluating media coverage
- Supporting the SAE, AM, SAM and AD in future activity planning and account evaluation
Company Responsibilities
- Daily news monitoring
- General administration duties
- Mentor and support junior team members (e.g. JAE, interns)
- Accountability and management of part or all of an account
- Being an indispensable source of support to the wider TDC team
- Continuously developing and honing core pitching, writing and selling-in skills
- Support senior team members at industry and client events wherever necessary
- Assist in researching and identifying new business opportunities
- Assist in developing new business proposals and participating in new business pitches
Key Skills and Experience
- Good verbal and written skills, which can be built on
- Resilient and unflappable under pressure
- Excellent organisation skills
- A sound understanding of clients’ business and their markets and a willingness to build on this knowledge on an ongoing basis
- Good people skills – able to adapt and liaise professionally and engagingly with a range of personalities, both internally and externally
- Self-motivated and incredibly driven
- Good presentation skills, which can be built on
- Resourceful thinker
- Awareness of the ‘bigger picture’ – both client-based and corporately
- A naturally analytical mind – keen to evaluate impact and efficacy of PR
- A considerate and collaborative team member who contributes positively to the work culture
Career Path
To progress to Senior Account Executive position, the AE must consistently achieve and exceed objectives based on the above activities for a portfolio of clients, as well as for the wider company, as agreed with the AM and AD.
